Lincoln Judo Academy have relocated to Sadler Park, Earlsfield Close and will officially open on Friday 16th April 2010. The new judo academy aimed at producing future Olympians and world champions will be opened by five-time world champion and 5th Dan Karen Briggs MBE.
Barry Cooper, the founder of the Academy, has been competing for 38 years and already runs Coopers Judo Club at Branston Village Hall with about 70 members. He hopes the opening of a second facility will raise the sport’s profile in the county and attract new faces. “We are limited at Branston, in the fact that we have to be finished at a certain time and this new purpose-built dojo will allow judo mats will be down all the time” said Cooper; who has taken up a five-year lease on a unit next to Lincoln Gymnastics Club, also owned by Taylor Lindsey. “This new facility allows us to train as long as we like and we want it to be a breeding ground for future world champions.”
Barry Cooper already has a handful of young prospects that are tipped for great things, including 11 year old Alicia Cartlidge. With the help of former Polish player Artur Blaszczyk, the academy aim to produce more of the same while instilling discipline in those attending.
Taylor Lindsey would like to wish Lincoln Judo Academy the very best success for the future.
